The truth about high blood pressure is that it’s the commonest state of ill health I see patients with at my practice. It’s also the number one risk fact for early death. (1)
It’s a good idea to get your blood pressure checked if you haven’t had it done in the last few years, because high BP usually has no symptoms.
What Is High Blood Pressure?
Your heart pumps blood into your arteries to get oxygen and nutrients to all parts of your body.
There needs to be a certain amount of pressure in the system for that to happen.
How Worried Should You Be If You Have High BP?
High blood pressure is a sign your body is not healthy, but it’s what high blood pressure leads to that makes it so deadly.
When your blood pressure is persistently too high for your blood vessels to cope with they start to break. The consequences of that depend on where happens first.
When the small blood vessels in your eyes succumb you develop a condition called retinopathy. The blood vessels are at risk of rupture and bleeding. You could end up losing your sight.
When it’s the small vessels in your kidneys that suffer you may end up with kidney failure. Some people end up relying on dialysis to keep them alive.
If it’s your heart that suffers the brunt – you could have a heart attack or suffer with heart failure.
The most common truth about high blood pressure is that you’re risking a stroke. I’ve seen patients in their 50s have a big stroke, leaving them disabled in a nursing home and unable to speak or feed themselves. All because of a preventable trigger – high blood pressure.
High blood pressure is a VERY SERIOUS DISEASE.
You Have Two Choices
You can ignore that fact you’ve caused the problem, and paper over it by relying solely on pharmaceutical drugs. This is what most people do. It’s akin to putting magic pants on in at attempt to hide that fat. The problem is going to pop out somewhere else, it’s only a matter of time, because the the cause of blood pressure is also the cause of many other illnesses, for example:
- Type 2 diabetes
- Heart disease
- Indigestion and heartburn
Some people see the truth about high blood pressure – they’ve made themselves ill, and it’s time to change. It’s time to regain their health before the rot really sets in. Having a stroke or losing your sight is no laughing matter after all.
The Truth About High Blood Pressure
It is NOT NORMAL for blood pressure to increase with age. But it is normal for it to increase in response to an unhealthy lifestyle. (2)
It’s a largely preventable and curable disease that is the top risk factor for early death. The conditions high blood pressure leads can disable and kill people.
High blood pressure is often the first illness people get diagnosed with. If they don’t change their ways they stepped onto the medical conveyor belt – more illness to come, more tablets to take to paper over the cracks.
Pharmaceutical drugs do not remove the cause, so people relying on medication are still inflicting the same damage on their body that caused their high blood pressure in the first place. It’s usually only a matter of time before this continued damage rears it’s head as more disease and illness.
If you’re already taking drugs – DO NOT STOP THEM. Talk to your doctor if you’re interested in helping yourself, and work with them as regards your tablets.
